I was not in awe by the attire at this event, but I my choices for 2009’s Golden Globe Awards for Best Dressed are in. My top three looks for the evening are:
1. Eva Mendez in Christian Dior with Van Cleef and Arples Jewels
To begin, the hair is sexy in this (somewhat) messy up-do while the the "more is less" make-up compliments her already stunning features. As for the dress, although I can't decide if it is reminiscent of the 80's or glam 50's, I give it a Yea. That big puff of "different" at her waist paired with the elegance of the rest of the dress just does it for me. And I just adore the classic neckline next to that drop dead necklace. It's unique shape and bold turquoise presence pulls the whole getup together to create that untraceable look. Let me also add that the use of relatively small sparkly earrings is an excellent choice. A perfect partner to the giganto necklace.
2. Olivia Wilde in Reem Acra with Van Cleef and Arples Jewels
Never mind that I have no idea who she is or what she has done (even after looking her up on IMDB), that dress is amazing. The detailing on the bodice, that absolutely gorgeous full skirt adorned with what looks to be feathers, the use of the belt and the unique color is a dream come true. I also enjoy how she left the the chest bare and used diamond explosion studs for her jewelry. If this woman had darker eye shadow, an amazing cuff bracelet and I knew who she was, I probably would have made her number one.
3. Laura Linney in Elie Saab Haute Couture with a Ferragamo Clutch
Laura simple looks beautiful. She immediately catches my eye with the unique choice of canary yellow and keeps my stare with the design. The asymmetrical cap sleeve is beyond fabulous and this is one of the rare dresses this evening that was able to skillfully mix elegant romance with interesting. The soft flow of the skirt and its draping is made modern with the use of the thick jeweled band at the waist and the asymmetrical layering of the bodice. Gorgeous. Top it off with the breezy beautiful blond hair framing her perfectly made up face and fun twirly earrings and we have a real golden goddess.
My Runner Ups are the women that took risks:
1. Hiedi Klum in vintage James Galanos
2. Maggie Gylenhaal in Lanvin with Fred Leighton Jewels
3. Marisa Tomei in Oscar de la Renta
The last photos I chose to put up from Style.com are other noteworthy dresses by Reem Acra who designed the dress that Olivia Wilde wore.
1. Eva Longoria
2. Rumer Willis
Olivia Wilde plays a doctor on the popular series "House, MD" on FOX. If you haven't seen it, you really must watch sometime. It just moved to Monday night.
